Jermaine Butler Sr. Struck, Killed by Driver on Market Street Near 7th Street
OAKLAND, CA (March 6, 2019) – A vehicle struck and killed a 46-year-old pedestrian on Market Street near 7th Street Monday morning.
The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau identified the fatal victim as Jermaine Butler Sr. on Tuesday.
According to police, a 2018 Dodge Magnum struck that 46-year-old El Sobrante man in the southbound lanes in the 900 block of Market Street.
Following the 10:23 a.m. crash, paramedics immediately ushered the seriously injured victim to Highland Hospital in Oakland. However, despite life-saving efforts, Butler succumbed to his injuries.
The 41-year-old Oakland man who struck Butler stayed at the scene. Officers do not believe impairment played a role, but they are encouraging witnesses to come forward and call their traffic investigation unit at (510) 777-8570.
