Javier Gaytan Suffers Major Injuries in Hit-and-Run Car Accident on Highway 198 Near Avenal
HANFORD, CA (March 21, 2019) – A hit-and-run wrong-way collision on Highway 198 near Avenal Wednesday left a 40-year-old driver with major injuries.
According to news reports, officers responded to a report around 5:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, they determined that a stolen 2004 Dodge Durango heading eastbound on the highway collided with a westbound 2005 Toyota. It appears the Dodge had been traveling in the wrong direction before the accident.
The unidentified driver of the Dodge fled the scene on foot and has yet to be found.
Meanwhile, at the scene, paramedics found Javier Rodriguez Gaytan suffering from major injuries. They quickly transported him to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.
According to CHP officers, the crash remains under investigation and it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
