Janie Flocchini and Nick Flocchini Dead, Silvia Gonzales in Custody Following DUI Accident on Colorado Road Near West Sumner Avenue
SAN JOAQUIN, CA (November 7, 2019)—Two people perished Wednesday in a fiery DUI collision along Colorado Road near West Sumner Avenue.
According to news reports, the Wednesday afternoon crash drew the attention of California Highway Patrol, Fresno County sheriff’s deputies and Fresno fire officials.
Investigators later determined that Silvia Gonzales drove behind a Mercedes on Colorado Road. However, Gonzales failed to use her brakes for unknown reasons. The Honda then struck the Mercedes’ rear, causing it to spin out of control and swerve into the other lane.
In the other lane, a pickup truck shuttling a 38-year-old driver and a 1-year-old passenger eventually collided with the Mercedes. As a result, both pickup truck occupants sustained minor to moderate injuries.
The Mercedes occupants — Janie Flocchini and Nick Flocchini — died after their vehicle engulfed in flames.
Authorities later determined that Gonzales, 42, appeared impaired at the time. In addition, police also found recreational drugs inside her vehicle. As a result, the authorities arrested her shortly after. In addition, investigators are looking to determine any outstanding details of this deadly crash.
Our hearts break for the families and friends of Janie Flocchini and Nick Flocchini during this tragic time.
