Janet Genao Killed, Javier Caldera Detained Following Multi-Vehicle DUI Collision on 15 Freeway Near Rancho California Road

 
TEMECULA, CA (June 5, 2019) – Tuesday morning, Janet Genao and Javier Caldera, were involved in a DUI accident on the 15 Freeway.
 
The six-vehicle collision occurred around 7:30 a.m. Dispatchers arrived to the area on the southbound lanes shortly after.
 
A dash cam video revealed a dark-colored 2011 Chevrolet Silverado bearing down the freeway and eventually rear-ending a car. It appears that the vehicles around were slowing down for traffic at the time.
 
The driver of the Silverado was later identified as 25-year-old Javier Caldera of Auburn, Washington. He reportedly struck a 2015 Nissan Altima, driven by 44-year-old Genao of Murrieta. She was later pronounced dead on scene due to the severity of her injuries.
 
Furthermore, a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 pickup also veered off the freeway and eventually struck the Temecula City Hall Parking Lot building. The 38-year-old male driver from Wildomar consequently suffered major injuries as a result.
 
In addition, a 35-year-old man from Brandon in a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 55-year-old man from Irvine in a 2017 Tesla Model S both sustained minor injuries.
 
Meanwhile, a 50-year-old El Cajon man operating a 2017 Toyota Camry escaped injury.
 
Caldera is currently being charged on suspicion of DUI, gross vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run resulting in property damage and driving with a suspended or revoked license.
 
He is now facing a $1 million bail at Southwest Detention Center. At this time, authorities are still investigating to determine the precise events that unfolded.
