James Salas Involved in Major-Injury Bicycle Collision on Fair Oaks Boulevard at Palm Drive
CARMICHAEL, CA (April 30, 2019) – A 15-year-old bicyclist suffered major injuries after a driver struck him on Fair Oaks Boulevard at Palm Drive Saturday night.
According to reports, the teen had a green light while riding his bicycle east across Fair Oaks Boulevard in a crosswalk. That’s when 24-year-old James Salas, heading northbound, failed to yield to a red traffic light and struck the teen.
The boy suffered major injuries after being tossed onto the Volkswagen Jetta’s windshield. It appears the cyclist was not wearing a seatbelt or any visible reflective safety clothing.
Following the 8:45 p.m. accident, Salas stayed and cooperated with officers, who ruled out impairment as a possible factor in the collision. Police did not arrest the driver, and it’s unclear whether he’ll face any charges.
It’s never wise to assume accidents won’t happen to you. Drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists alike should always have safety in the forefront of their minds. Navigate the streets with care and responsibility. By looking out for trouble and being defensive, we can have better control over the road.
