Israel Lopez-Garibay Identified as Bicyclist Killed on Fruitvale Avenue
OAKLAND, CA (October 9, 2019) — 24-year-old Israel Lopez-Garibay, of Oakland, died in a bicycle crash on Thursday, October 3.
Police said that at around 6:50 p.m., Lopez-Garibay rode a bike south in the 1800 block of Fruitvale Avenue. Then he ran into a Toyota Avalon’s open door.
The impact ejected Lopez-Garibay from the bike. Then a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup that was headed south on Fruitvale struck him, police stated.
Fire and ambulance crews gave aid but Lopez-Garibay succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The occupants of the Toyota and the Dodge pickup remained at the scene. They cooperated with investigators, police stated
