OLYMPIA, WA (February 1, 2019) – The 11-year-old boy who was severely injured in Sunday’s hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Highway 101 near Oyster Bay Road Northwest died a few days later.
Isaiah Bermeo was only 11 years old when he took his last breath at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Bermeo suffered critical injuries Sunday around 5:30 p.m. when he wandered away from home and was struck by a car on the highway.
The driver who struck him fled the scene, but the van that was involved was found Monday, abandoned about seven to 10 miles from the crash site. Tips led detectives to the vehicle.
Irven F. Jacobs Jr., a 51-year-old Shelton resident, turned himself in from the Nisqually Red Wind Casino after Washington State Patrol released his name and photo and asked the public for help in locating him. He was arrested and booked into the Thurston County jail on the charge of hit and run injury or death.
