Car Crash Leads to San Diego Multi-Vehicle Accident on Interstate 805 and Balboa Avenue

SAN DIEGO, CA (January 29, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, a startling pileup crash on Interstate 805 and Balboa Avenue led to injuries.

The incident happened at about 4:45 a.m. when a sedan rear-ended a truck in the right lane of southbound Interstate 805. Then, CHP officers initiated a roadblock to clear the lane.

However, some motorists disregarded the traffic break, leading the non-injury crash into a major injury crash after a big rig and four other vehicles crashed, hitting and flipping the original truck.

As a result, the trick driver sustained severe injuries. Meanwhile, another driver sustained life-threatening injuries. Responders took both of them to local hospitals.

Meanwhile, the incident led to a complete traffic stop on southbound Interstate 805 for at least 45 minutes. Also, officers diverted traffic onto Clairemont Mesa Boulevard into the morning while the investigation continued.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
