Motorist Found Dead Following Truck Collision in Hyampom
HYAMPOM, CA (January 2, 2019) – A 63-year-old man from Hayfork was found dead a day after his pickup truck crashed and overturned on Hyampom Road near Hayfork Creek Friday night.
On Dec. 28 around 7:35 p.m., an unidentified 63-year-old man was operating a 2014 Dodge Ram 1500. As he was heading westbound on Hyampom Road, just east of Drinkwater Ranch Road at an unknown speed, he allowed his pickup to travel onto the right shoulder. The driver reacted and reclaimed control of the wheel, steering the truck back onto the road. Yet the pickup crossed both lanes before crossing the south dirt shoulder, where it traveled over an embankment. The pickup truck became airborne and descended nearly 80 feet before hitting the rock bed of Hayfork Creek, causing the vehicle to overturn.
The driver was ejected from the pickup truck and into the creek, where he was found the following morning at approximately 10:45 a.m. Authorities believe the driver was drinking prior to the crash but it is not known whether he was impaired at the time of the collision. A toxicology test is pending.
