Hesperia Man Dies in State Route 247 Vehicle Crash [Lucerne Valley, CA]

Lucerne Valley, CA (July 15, 2021) – On Monday, a 29-year-old Hesperia man died in State Route 247 vehicle crash.

The accident happened at about 9:49 a.m. near Medanos Avenue.

Authorities said a 21-year-old Apple Valley man on a 2007 Ford F-350 pickup was southbound on State Route 247.

At the same time, a 29-year-old Oxnard man on a Chevy Avalanche pickup truck carrying three passengers was northbound on the freeway.

Meanwhile, a 29-year-old Hesperia man on a 2003 Dodge Dart was behind the Avalanche.

For reasons still under investigation, the Ford F-350 driver drifted into the northbound lane.

As a result, the front left of his pickup crashed into the left rear of the Avalanche. 

“After this impact, the driver of the Ford F-350 turned to the right, directly into the path of travel of the Dodge Dart.  The driver of the Dodge Dart attempted to make an evasive turn to the left, in attempt to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful. The front portion of the Ford F-350 collided into the left side of the Dodge Dart, which resulted in [the] driver of the Dodge Dart to sustain fatal injuries,” stated on a CHP release. 

Responders took the Ford F-350 driver Mercy Air to Loma Linda University Medical Center for suffering major injuries.

The Chevrolet Avalanche driver and passengers were not injured in the accident.

Moreover, the authorities said drugs and/or alcohol were not considered as a contributing factor to this accident.
