Hector Jose Injured, 1 Dead in Head-On Collision on Highway 108 Near Lancaster Road
OAKDALE, CA (November 18, 2019) — A driver died in a head-on collision along Highway 108 near Lancaster Road Sunday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash took place around 8:45 a.m., roughly three miles east of Lancaster Road.
A 1993 Toyota pickup truck and a 2015 Nissan Rogue compact SUV collided head-on and left the Toyota driver dead.
From investigations, authorities learned that the 57-year-old driver and his 35-year-old female passenger were traveling west when 83-year-old Hector Ramos Jose, of Oakdale, veered into their lane. Jose’s Nissan and the Toyota pickup crashed head-on, killing the 57-year-old driver in the pickup at 9:01 a.m.
Firefighters extricated the fatal victim shortly after and airlifted his unidentified passenger to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto for her major injuries. It appears she suffered severe head trauma.
As for Jose, reports noted that he complained of chest pain and sought treatment at Memorial Medical Center.
During their investigations, authorities learned that the deceased driver failed to use a safety belt, whereas his passenger and Jose did. More investigation is underway.
