Giovany Camacho Dies in DUI Solo-Car Crash on Highway 99 Near East Kettleman Lane
LODI, CA (January 10, 2019) – A 20-year-old Turlock man lost his life in a suspected DUI crash on Highway 99 near East Kettleman Lane on Jan. 2.
The incident unfolded at approximately 1:40 a.m. when Giovany Camacho was driving a 2000 Honda Accord northbound on the highway. Camacho lost control of his vehicle, making an unsafe turning movement to the right, and veered off the shoulder of the roadway where it struck a tree limb and a fence. The impact caused the Honda to overturn into a vineyard.
The California Highway Patrol believes the 20-year-old man was traveling at speeds of 65 to 70 mph. Because Camacho and his passenger were not wearing their seatbelts, the passenger was ejected from the vehicle and suffered moderate injuries.
Camacho died shortly after the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have confirmed that alcohol played a role in the crash.
