Interstate 5 Freightliner Crash Kills Santoge Thearry Declouette, Injures Gerardo Camarena

 
Kern County, CA (April 06, 2021) – On Sunday, 48-year-old Gerardo Camarena was injured in a fatal tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 5.
 
The deadly semi truck accident happened at around 3:07 a.m. near Grapevine Road in Bakersfield.
 
Officers said a man was driving a 2010 Nissan northbound on the highway at a high speed in the #3 lane. Just then, the driver attempted to overtake a 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer.
 
Camarena, the Freightliner driver was driving in the same lane at about 55 miles per hour.
 
Subsequently, the Nissan driver failed to slow down and crashed into the back of the big rig. The incident damaged the rear axle of the Freightliner and left major damage to the Nissan.
 
When authorities arrived on the scene, they found the Nissan driver pinned and unconscious in the driver’s seat.
 
Moreover, police pronounced him dead at the scene. He was later identified as Santoge Thearry Declouette, 39.
 
The Freightliner driver, Gerardo Q. Camarena, sustained minor injuries. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
