Gary Vroman and Ambe Hernandez Hospitalized in Two-Vehicle Collision on 5 Freeway Near County Road 17
WOODLAND, CA (January 30, 2019) – A two-vehicle crash Monday morning on the 5 Freeway near County Road 17 left two people with injuries.
The incident unfolded around 6:50 a.m. on the southbound freeway lanes. California Highway Patrol officers reported that a 1997 Nissan was heading southbound at a low speed in the left lane. It appeared the Nissan sustained a flat tire at the time.
Meanwhile, a 2018 Nissan, also heading southbound, began approaching the 1997 Nissan and its driver was unable to slow down or stop in time, resulting in a collision between the two cars. The 1997 Nissan driver, later identified as 79-year-old Gary Lee Vroman of Sacramento, sustained major injuries. Vroman was shuttled to UC Davis Medical Center for treatment.
Ambe Hernandez was the 28-year-old driver of the 2018 Nissan who also sustained injuries of unknown severity.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash, but the authorities are investigating this case further.
Mechanical failures and flat tires happen. Although, we can prevent these by maintaining and servicing our vehicle when we should. Always ensuring that our tires are rotated and properly inflated can slow down premature and uneven tire wear, thus a flat tire. It is critical that we maintain our vehicles periodically to ensure our safety on the road.
