Gabriel Rey Dies in Motorcycle Accident on McCourtney Road Near Highway 20
GRASS VALLEY, CA (June 28, 2019) – A 66-year-old man died Tuesday afternoon in a motorcycle accident along McCourtney Road near Highway 20.
According to authorities, Gabriel Oliver Rey died at the scene just after his motorcycle collided with a van head-on.
Detectives determined that the 4:50 p.m. accident happened just west of the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Rey, of Grass Valley, was believed to be traveling eastbound when his front tire began to wobble. A westbound driver with three people inside the car noticed Rey as he negotiated a turn and pulled over to the side of the road. However, a westbound van traveling behind them failed to see Rey and struck him head-on.
The crash ejected Rey onto the side of the road, causing him fatal injuries.
No one else suffered any injuries, said Officer Mike Steele. This tragic news has investigators seeking the cause and details.
