Pedestrian Hospitalized in Fresno Crash
FRESNO, CA (January 8, 2019) – A female pedestrian was seriously injured Saturday evening after being struck by a driver at East Sierra and North Blackstone avenues.
The pedestrian crash occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. Emergency Personnel responded to the scene and arrived to find a woman lying at the center median just a short distance from the vehicle.
According to Fresno Police Lt. Larry Bowlan, the vehicle was heading northbound on North Blackstone Avenue and its driver was attempting a left-hand turn onto West Sierra Avenue; however, the vehicle struck the pedestrian in the roadway, causing the woman serious injury.
It is unclear at this point whether the woman was crossing the street or merely standing in the roadway for an unexplained reason.
The driver was questioned by authorities and was not believed to be impaired at the time of the crash. Authorities have confirmed, thus far, that it was raining at the time but have not ascertained whether rainy weather played a role.
