Woman Dies in Fresno Hit-and-Run Collision
FRESNO, CA (January 16, 2019) – A woman was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday evening on North Hughes Avenue near Belmont Avenue.
The crash unfolded around 5:30 p.m. Officers responded to the scene to find a woman lying in the roadway. She was unconscious and immediately taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. The unidentified victim who was believed to be a homeless woman has yet to be identified.
Police reported that the man who was driving the car that struck her thought he had hit a shopping cart in the roadway. The driver did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol, but an investigation of this case is underway.
