Cyclist Dies in Fresno Collision
FRESNO, CA (January 23, 2019) – A Tuesday night bicycle crash along West Church Avenue near South Marks Avenue left a victim with fatal injuries.
According to Fresno police Lt. Jerardo Chamalbide, the incident happened around 6 p.m. The driver, a female, struck the male bicyclist as she was heading home from work while driving westbound toward South Marks Avenue. She was reportedly blinded by eastbound traffic at the time, hindering her vision of the bicyclist ahead.
According to police, the cyclist was wearing dark-colored clothing and did not have reflectors on his bicycle. Police were unable to confirm in which direction the man was hit but believe he might have been avoiding a puddle of water around the westbound shoulder of West Church Avenue since his body was found near there.
The driver stayed at the scene and was cooperative with authorities. The identity of the victim will be released once the next of kin has been notified.
