10-Year-Old Francisco Reyes-Ortiz Dies, Adriana Tinoco Hospitalized Following Bakersfield Crash
Bakersfield, CA (October 29, 2020) – On Wednesday, a 10-year-old passenger named Francisco Reyes-Ortiz died, while 36-year-old Adriana Tinoco was injured in a crash on Highway 99.
The fatal Bakersfield accident happened at about 11:52 a.m. north of Rosedale Highway.
California Highway Patrol said that prior to the accident, traffic came to a complete stop on southbound Highway 99.
The child was riding a Honda Civic driven Tinoco. At the same time, 33-year-old Meesak Anjum was driving a big rig and was stopped in the number 3 lane waiting in traffic.
The Honda driven by Tinoco was behind Anjum’s vehicle.
Further, 44-year-old Ramiro Sanchez was driving another big rig. He was about to stop, but was unable to do so.
As a result, his vehicle crashed into the back of Tinoco’s Honda. The Honda was then pushed forward into the back of Anjum’s big rig.
The rescuers rushed Tinoco and the child passenger to Kern Medical Center with major injuries. However, the child passenger died from his injuries.
On the other hand, Anjum and Sanchez did not sustain injuries from the incident.
Apparently, the crash spilled 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway and blocked multiple lanes of southbound Highway 99 blocking the No. 2 and 3 lanes.
CHP said a sand truck was requested to help deal with the spilled fuel.
Meanwhile, the authorities said neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have played a role in the crash.
The CHP is still investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to call the Bakersfield area CHP at 661-396-6600.
