3 Dead in Riverside County Plane Accident near Pipeline Road and Apache Trail

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA (August 7, 2023) – Sunday night, a horrific firefighting helicopter crash crash near Pipeline Road and Apache Trail killed 3 people.

The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. near Pipeline Road and Apache Trail.

According to reports, two firefighting helicopters crashed mid-air as they responded to a brush fire in Riverside County.

Reports said that the victims included a CAL FIRE division chief, a CAL FIRE fire captain, and a contract pilot. However, their identities remained undisclosed due to pending family notification.

Moreover, during the mid-air crash, one helicopter managed to safely land without injuries. However, the second helicopter crashed, killing all passengers onboard.

Also, the crash led to an additional four-acre brush fire which was later extinguished.

“I would like to express our deepest sympathies and sorrow to the families and the coworkers of the personnel,” a CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire spokesperson revealed. “This was a tragic loss for the community. We think about this and how it affects the families. They have lost three great individuals — three fathers, three husbands, three friends, and three sons. We want to tell everyone while their sacrifice should not be in vain, that we think about them and we will support them.”

Officers revealed that the helicopter that crashed was a water-dropping aircraft.

The National Transportation Safety Board handles the investigation.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
