Motorcyclist Killed in West Los Angeles Crash
WEST LOS ANGELES, CA (April 18, 2019) – A motorcyclist died Wednesday following a motorcycle crash on 405 Freeway near Santa Monica Boulevard.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly incident unfolded around 10 a.m. Officials issued a SigAlert since crews had to shut down five southbound lanes.
Officials say the 25-year-old man died when his 2007 Suzuki GSX R-series sportbike collided with a 2018 BMW X5 SUV. It appears the rider, from Reseda, crashed into the BMW, which was traveling in the lane to the right of it. Subsequently, the motorcycle caught on fire, killing the rider.
Authorities are unclear as to why the motorcyclist lost control and struck the left rear of the BMW. The 60-year-old Beverly Hills BMW driver escaped injury.
Per CHP officers, neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a contributing factor in the collision.
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the victim mourning this devastating loss.
