Driver Dies in Two-Vehicle Accident in San Juan Capistrano
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA (April 23, 2019) – A 34-year-old driver died in a head-on collision Monday morning on Highway 74 near Gibby Road.
According to reports, the fatal crash happened around 6 a.m. near Caspers Wilderness Park.
The 34-year-old driver was operating an eastbound 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck on the highway. Subsequently, the Dodge collided with a westbound 2016 Dodge Ram.
According to California Highway Patrol, the 2016 Dodge Ram driver veered over the double yellow lines for undetermined reasons.
As a result of the crash, the 22-year-old Hemet man operating the 2016 Dodge suffered minor injuries and was brought to Mission Hospital. A 30-year old man from Los Angeles riding in the 1999 Dodge truck suffered major injuries and sought treatment at the same hospital.
Unfortunately, the 34-year-old driver of the second vehicle succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Officials are unsure whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
