Man Dead, 3 Injured Following Three-Vehicle Accident in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 7, 2019) – A 31-year-old man died in a multi-car collision Monday on the 805 Freeway near El Cajon Boulevard.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place around 12:50 a.m. on the 805 South Freeway.
Reports indicated that a southbound 2014 Kia Optima collided with a 2007 GMC box truck under unclear circumstances.
As a result of the accident, the 31-year-old Kia driver and the 56-year-old Chevrolet driver exited their vehicles and began walking in the highway lanes.
News reports say it was at this time when an oncoming 2016 Mercedes-Benz sedan, driven by a 28-year-old man, struck the GMC box truck, as well as the Kia driver.
The unidentified 31-year-old man died as a result of the collision.
Meanwhile, the box truck driver, the Mercedes-Benz driver and his 29-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries. Paramedics transported all three to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest.
Due to the crash, southbound traffic came to a halt as crews investigated the scene until 6:30 a.m.
