Driver Killed in Rollover Accident on West Valley Parkway [Escondido, CA]

Man Dies in Multi-Vehicle Rollover Collision on North Quince Street

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (March 4, 2019) – An unidentified driver was killed in a rollover accident on West Valley Parkway Sunday morning, near North Quince Street.
 
Emergency crews received calls about a serious crash in the area around 9:35 a.m. Reports indicate that a 41-year-old Escondido woman was driving a Mercedes. At the same time, a 54-year-old man from Escondido was driving a Toyota.
 
Officials say the westbound Mercedes struck the southbound Toyota pickup on West Valley Parkway. The Tacoma overturned multiple times upon impact, eventually ejecting the male driver from the vehicle. The rolling vehicle then came to a stop, resting on top of the victim. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz struck a retaining wall.
 
Witnesses and police attempted to lift the truck off the driver. He was taken to Palomar Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
 
The female driver involved was not injured in the accident. However, a woman in the Toyota’s passenger seat suffered injuries. Firefighters had to extricate the passenger from the vehicle.
 
Investigators say the Tacoma driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Furthermore, drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as a factor.
