Eric Escobedo Jr. Dead, Rene Zaragoza Jr. Detained in DUI Hit-and-Run Accident at Marconi Avenue and Bell Street
ARDEN-ARCADE, CA (March 19, 2019) – A 9-year-old boy died in Sunday’s DUI hit-and-run crash at Marconi Avenue and Bell Street.
The devastating two-car collision happened around 1:30 a.m. when 27-year-old Rene Zaragoza Jr. blew through the intersection’s red light.
According to news reports, Zaragoza crashed into a vehicle occupied by 9-year-old Eric Escobedo Jr. and either his mother or a 36-year-old Sacramento man, per conflicting reports. Further reports noted that their vehicle had been traveling westbound on Marconi Avenue when Zaragoza rammed into their car.
Following the crash, Zaragoza fled the scene, leading authorities to locate his whereabouts. Meanwhile, medics rushed the pair to a hospital with serious injuries. However, in spite of life-saving efforts, Escobedo succumbed to his injuries.
Through a follow-up investigation, officers located Zaragoza at his Roseville home and arrested him on suspicion of murder, felony DUI and other charges.
