Person Killed in Rollover Collision North of County Road 57
Willows, CA (October 13, 2023) – 6-year-old Eric Castro was among others who were injured in an Interstate 5 fatal collision Friday morning.
CHP officers stated that the driver, 31-year-old Eric Samayoa, was southbound on the freeway north of County Road 57 in a 2000 Chevy. He was traveling between 65-70 miles per hour when the vehicle swerved to the left into the median.
Afterward, Samayoa struck the brakes and took a sharp right turn when the vehicle rotated southwest across both southbound lanes. The Chevy then overturned and went through a fence on the west side of the highway.
The vehicle finally stopped upside down.
10-year-old Kimberly Castro and 6-year-old Eric Castro incurred major injuries. They were rushed to Enloe Medical Center and UC Davis Hospital.
Similarly, 20-year-old Carolina Serrano also incurred major injuries but was able to ride out of the incident.
Two other children suffered minor injuries in the accident.
In the meantime, the authorities withheld the identity of the deceased pending notification of kin. The accident report stated that the deceased was the only one who was not secured into the vehicle when the collision happened.
Everyone involved in this accident was from Hoquiam, Washington.
