Woman and Dog Killed in DUI Broadside Crash On Orange Avenue near Stockton Boulevard
FLORIN, CA (December 27, 2019) – A man was arrested following a fatal DUI crash early Friday morning in South Sacramento.
The fatal crash happened around 12:10 a.m., in the area of Parkway Estates along Orange Avenue. Dispatchers arrived to the area near Stockton Boulevard.
CHP officials said a Mercedes Station Wagon was pulling out of a residential driveway when a speeding Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 49-year-old Eloy Tapia of Sacramento, broadsided it.
A 63-year-old female passenger inside the Mercedes was carrying her dog in her lap at the time. As a result, both her and her pet were killed.
Meanwhile, paramedics transported the Mercedes driver, a 60-year-old man, to a nearby hospital with major injuries. However, there has been no update on his current condition.
Police later arrested Tapia on scene on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Tapia currently faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and DUI resulting in death or major injury. His bail is set at $50,000.
