Elise Durgin Injured in Fatal Head-On Crash on Rough and Ready Highway [Nevada County, CA]

Joel Perez Killed in Collision Near Greenwood Road

Nevada County, CA (February 1, 2023) – On Monday, Elise Durgin, 78, of Grass Valley, sustained injuries in a vehicle crash on Rough and Ready Highway that killed Joel Perez,18, of Auburn.

The collision took place minutes past 5:45 p.m. near Greenwood Road, west of Grass Valley city limits.

According to the authorities, a 2008 Infiniti G37 that was westbound on Rough and Ready Highway crossed into eastbound traffic. The vehicle driven by Joel Perez drove directly into the path of a 2019 Subaru WRX. 

As a result, the two vehicles collided head-on.

Joel Perez was not wearing a seat belt during the collision. He suffered severe head trauma and died at the scene. 

Moreover, the paramedics rushed the Subaru driver, Elise Durgin, to a hospital with major injuries. She was later transferred to a different hospital.

The CHP is investigating the incident, though, they said that drugs or alcohol were not suspected in the collision near Greenwood Road.
