Elias Sanchez Struck, Killed by Motorist on Paramount Boulevard at South Street
LONG BEACH, CA (January 10, 2019) – A 79-year-old pedestrian lost his life Monday night after being struck by a hit-and-run driver before being hit by a second car on Paramount Boulevard at South Street.
Elias Sanchez died at the scene of the crash, according to police. Authorities believe the 79-year-old pedestrian was crossing South Street at Paramount Boulevard in a marked crosswalk with the green signal on and was hit by a cargo van that was attempting a northbound turn onto Paramount Boulevard from westbound South Street.
The driver reportedly dragged Sanchez approximately 900 feet on Paramount Boulevard before fleeing the scene and making no effort to render aid. Shortly after, a 2004 GMC Yukon, whose motorist tried to avoid hitting Sanchez on the roadway, struck him. The second motorist stayed at the scene.
The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a white 1970s to 1980s Chevrolet or Ford cargo/utility van. Anyone with insight into this crash is encouraged to call (562) 570-7355 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
