Sudan Woman Elaine Maribel Martinez Killed in US 385 Collision [Lubbock, TX]

Lubbock, TX (April 18, 2024) – 19-year-old Elaine Maribel Martinez of Sudan was killed in a US 385 collision Wednesday morning.

The authorities received the head-on crash report past 9 a.m. at the intersection with FM 597. Officers said they received reports that one of the involved vehicles caught fire.

Troopers said an 18-wheeler driven by 38-year-old Datyrik Terell Sheppard of Lubbock, was northbound on the highway. Suddenly, the truck drifted to the left and crossed into the southbound lanes. As a result, the big rig crashed into Martinez’s Nissan Versa.

Investigators said the posted speed limit for the area is 75 mph and the road and weather conditions at the time of the crash were dry and clear.
