Durwood Swartz Killed in Pedestrian Crash at Coffee Road and Granite Falls Drive
BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 21, 2019)—The man who died Tuesday evening in a pedestrian crash at Coffee Road and Granite Falls Drive has been identified.
According to the Bakersfield police, the man had first been described as a person in his 80s.
Police arrived at the scene around 6:45 p.m. to learn that a driver struck 85-year-old Durwood Henry Swartz outside of a crosswalk. Swartz, whose identity had not been confirmed at the time, suffered serious injuries and died shortly after.
The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, who later ruled out alcohol and drugs as possible factors in the collision.
Authorities are continuing their investigation of this crash to determine the liabilities and causes.
