2 Injured in DUI Motorcycle Accident in Carlsbad
CARLSBAD, CA (April 1, 2019) – Two people suffered serious injuries following Friday’s DUI-related motorcycle accident on State Street near Grand Avenue.
According to Carlsbad Police Cpl. Jon Boyce, officers received a call around 9:45 p.m. At the scene, officers learned that a 28-year-old man and 26-year-old woman – occupants of the motorcycle – suffered serious injuries. Paramedics shuttled both patients to a trauma hospital.
A preliminary investigation helped authorities piece together the events. According to evidence at the scene, the white Mercedes attempted a left turn from a driveway before it broadsided the motorcycle. Subsequently, the motorcycle occupants were ejected.
As a result of the collision, officials determined that the 67-year-old Mercedes driver displayed signs of impairment. Police later took that driver into custody on suspicion of drunk driving.
Yet according to Boyce, the motorcyclist might have also been under the influence.
Operating a motor vehicle while impaired can result in disasters including major-injury collisions. If you’re drinking, make plans for alternative ways of getting home instead of driving. You can greatly avoid trouble with the law and causing accidents on the road due to intoxication.
