Harris County, TX (September 27, 2024) – A Texas DPS trooper sustained critical injuries in a DUI hit-and-run crash on Highway 249.
Authorities announced Friday that a suspected drunk driver will face charges after striking and seriously injuring a Texas DPS trooper during a routine traffic stop in northwest Harris County.
The incident occurred around 2:50 a.m. on Highway 249 near Washington.
Lt. Craig Cummings of Texas DPS reported that the trooper was standing on the driver’s side of the vehicle he had pulled over when the suspect collided with the patrol car, the stopped vehicle, and the trooper.
A passerby flagged down another trooper nearby following the crash. The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office about a mile or two away.
The trooper was taken to the hospital in critical condition, though authorities remain hopeful for his recovery.
