Duane Roork, Jose Gomez and Thomas York Hurt in Highway 20 Accident Near Lakeshore Drive
NICE, CA (March 21, 2019) – A three-vehicle collision along Highway 20 near Lakeshore Drive Tuesday resulted in three injuries, say officials.
According to a press release from the Clearlake California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:50 a.m.
Duane Roork, of Willits, allowed his 2009 Toyota Corolla to veer across the solid double yellow lines for unknown reasons. Traveling roughly 50 mph westbound, Roork collided with an eastbound 2012 Kenworth T660 semi-truck, driven by 29-year-old Jose Gomez.
Gomez, of Williams, spotted the Toyota heading toward him and tried swerving but failed to avoid the imminent crash. The Kenworth pushed Roork’s car over the double yellow line and into the westbound lanes, where it smashed into a westbound 2012 Dodge Ram pickup.
While the Corolla came to a rest on the northern shoulder, the semi-truck came to a stop near the highway’s north embankment. The Ram pickup, driven by 50-year-old Thomas York, also came to rest on the highway’s northern shoulder.
As a result of the collision, Roork, 57, suffered a broken ankle and a punctured lung. Paramedics brought him to Vacaville Kaiser Hospital while Gomez and York received treatment at the scene for minor injuries.
According to the CHP, fatigue might have played a role, yet the crash remains under investigation.
