Woman Dies in Long Beach Bicycle Accident
LONG BEACH, CA (May 20, 2019) – A Thursday morning bicycle accident turned deadly at East 2nd Street and Bay Shore Avenue.
Authorities are seeking witnesses’ help in piecing together the factual events that took a woman’s life.
The bicyclist suffered critical injuries when a westbound Jeep SUV struck her around 5:25 a.m. Reports say she was riding northbound on Bay Shore Avenue when the black Jeep struck her as it traveled west on 2nd Street.
The woman suffered severe injuries to her torso and upon arrival at the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police officials.
At the scene, authorities determined that the bicyclist crossed the entire street before being hit and thrown 15 to 20 yards from the point of impact.
However, it is unclear at this point what precisely happened, but reports say the driver had a green light as the woman rode against a red light.
