Mario Figueroa Injured in Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash on Highway 43
Bakersfield, CA (July 11, 2021) – A fiery crash on Highway 43 involving two vehicles killed one person and left Mario Figueroa injured on Thursday morning.
The incident took place on July 8 on Highway 43 just north of Panama Lane just south of Munzer Road.
At about 5:10 a.m., a 42-year-old man from Laton was driving 1990 International southbound on the highway. The California Highway Patrol reported that the man was driving about 45 miles per hour. Meanwhile, Mario Figueroa, 61, from Bakersfield was driving a 2015 Peterbilt northbound.
According to CHP, the driver of the International veered off the road before turning back to the left. As a result, the vehicle overcorrected sending the International in the direction of Peterbilt.
The vehicles crashed just south of Munzer Road while the International was sliding on its side down the roadway. Then, it burst into flames.
Furthermore, the collision sent the Peterbilt to the other side of the road and ended up in an orchard.
Fatal Crash in Bakersfield
Due to the impact of the crash, the driver of the International died on the scene. The victim’s identification is being withheld pending notification of the next-of-kin.
Moreover, Figueroa suffered major injuries and medics transported him to Kern Medical for treatment. CHP confirmed that he was using safety equipment before the incident.
