1 Dead, Another Injured After Tractor-Trailer Plows Into Bridge Pillar in Sylmar
SYLMAR, CA (July 19, 2019) – A big rig driver died Thursday when the trucked crashed into a bridge pillar on the 5 Freeway.
The fatal accident befell in the southbound lanes just north of the 210 Freeway. Reports say that around midnight, a semi-truck hauling grapes in the truck lane drifted to the left. As a result, it struck a bridge piling for the overhead 210 overpass.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver died at the scene. However, paramedics brought another person trapped inside the cab to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not identified the individuals involved in the crash.
Due to the devastation of the crash, officials closed several lanes as Caltrans assessed the damage.
Police did not release any other information regarding the details of the accident at this time. Investigators are combing through the details to determine what led to this accident.
