Devastating Head-On Crash on Wildcat Canyon Road Kills 1 [East County, CA]

1 Dead in East County Auto Accident on Wildcat Canyon Road near Muth Valley Road

EAST COUNTY, CA (October 24, 2023) – Sunday night, a devastating head-on crash on Wildcat Canyon Road killed 1 person.

The incident happened at about 6:25 p.m. when a 42-year-old man drove a Ford pickup south on Wildcat Canyon Road near Muth Valley Road. Then, the driver drove over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane for unknown reasons, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jared Grieshaber.

Afterward, the pickup collided head-on with the Volkswagen sedan that was driving north. Due to the crash, the truck overturned in the traffic lanes.

Meanwhile, the Volkswagen went off the east side of the road.

As a result, the Volkswagen driver succumbed to injuries before he could be taken to a hospital. His name identity remained undisclosed due to pending family notification.

Meanwhile, responders took the Ford driver to a hospital with major injuries.

Also, the authorities do not suspect that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Moreover, the authorities issued a traffic alert for the road shortly before 7 p.m.

Then, it reopened around 2½ hours later, the CHP added.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
