1 Dead in Santa Clarita County Auto Accident on Highway 25 and Bloomfield Avenue

SANTA CLARITA, CA (April 30, 2024) – Monday afternoon, a devastating car crash on Highway 25 and Bloomfield Avenue killed 1 person.

The incident happened at about 12:45 p.m. on Highway 25 and Bloomfield Avenue, outside of Gilroy.

According to a California Highway Patrol officer, a 48-year-old man drove a tractor-trailer northbound on Highway 25 approaching Bloomfield Avenue at around 40 miles per hour.

The tragic accident occurred when a woman driving a Hyundai Elantra west on Bloomfield Avenue approached the intersection with Highway 25. Attempting to make a left turn onto Highway 25, the woman crashed directly with a Freightliner.

According to investigators, the front of the Freightliner struck the Elantra, causing them to become entangled until they came to a stop on the shoulder of Highway 25.

Tragically, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while the driver of the Freightliner sustained minor injuries to his left hand. They were the only occupants in their respective vehicles.

At present, it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Additionally, it is too early to determine if the driver of the tractor/trailer will face charges, as indicated by a spokesperson from the California Highway Patrol.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the crash to contact the California Highway Patrol.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
