Desiree Wager Dead, 2 Badly Injured in Fatal Rollover Crash on 10 Freeway in Whitewater
WHITEWATER, CA (June 16, 2019) – A woman died following a rollover crash Sunday morning in Whitewater.
The accident took place at 7:10 a.m. in the westbound lanes of 10 Freeway, about a mile East of Whitewater rest area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a black 2003 Ford Explorer had exited the rest area when it began swerving. The SUV appeared to be traveling at 65 mph. After that, the car went down an embankment and crashed into trees.
The driver, identified as a 57-year-old Desiree Wager of Brawley, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the SUV, a 61-year-old Brawley man and a 76-year-old woman from Oregon, sustained serious injuries. The woman was in the front passenger seat, while the man was behind her when the crash occurred.
An ambulance transported both victims to Desert Regional Hospital. Doctors are currently treating the female victim for her life-threatening injuries.
Officials blocked a portion of the right westbound lane and traffic continued to flow Sunday morning.
Police have not ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors in the crash. In addition, the accident remains under investigation.
