Sheriff’s Deputy Hospitalized, James Chien Involved in Twentynine Palms Car Crash
Twentynine Palms, CA (September 16, 2020) – On Thursday, a sheriff’s deputy was injured while 42-year-old James Chien of Joshua Tree was involved in a car crash on Hillside Avenue.
Moreover, the accident happened at about 1:20 p.m. on September 10. A sheriff’s deputy incurred minor injuries after colliding with a vehicle near Sun Valley Drive.
According to California Highway Patrol, Chien was driving a white 1973 Chevrolet K20, north on Hillside Avenue approaching Sun Valley Drive at about 20 mph.
At the same time, an on-duty deputy was driving west in a fully marked department patrol vehicle. He was on Sun Valley Drive traveling to Hillside Avenue at about 35 mph.
Chien was searching for an address and looking for street signs in the area. He failed to stop for the posted stop sign at Sun Valley Drive, then drove into the path of the deputy.
As a result, the deputy’s patrol car crashed with the right side of Chien’s vehicle.
Immediately, the rescuers took the deputy to Hi-Desert Medical Center with minor injuries. On the other hand, Chien refused medical attention on scene.
Officer Swanson says he will continue to investigate the incident.
Moreover, the CHP reminds drivers to keep focused on the road at all times.
Practice safe driving habits on the road at all times… even when it is empty, even when there is no police officer around to make sure you make a full and complete stop.
