Fatal Bicycle Collision near Railroad Avenue, Paula Elizabeth Drake Arrested
WOODACRE, CA (October 29, 2018) – A woman was killed Monday evening following a bicycle crash near Railroad Avenue. The deceased victim was later identified as 63-year-old Debra DiBenedetto, a resident of San Geronimo.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 5:30 PM. DiBenedetto was riding her bicycle along Sir Francis Drake Boulevard when she was struck by a 2006 Ford Explorer.
Emergency responders found the critically injured victim in a ditch near the right shoulder of the road. She was then rushed to Marin General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by medical staff. A GoFundMe page was created to assist DiBenedetto’s family with funeral expenses. The Ford driver, identified as 24-year-old Paula Elizabeth Drake of Fairfax, was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing death and gross vehicular manslaughter. She was booked into the Marin County Jail and is currently in custody with a $500,000 bail.
Additional information will be released to the public, following the conclusion of the investigation.
