Debra Cherry Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision on FM 787 [Tarkington, TX]

Tarkington, TX (February 15, 2023) – On Tuesday night, Debra Cherry, 69, of Rye, died, while several others suffered injuries in a multi-vehicle collision on FM 787.

The Texas traffic accident took place at around 6 p.m. west of CR 2184.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Amanda Austin, 38, of Thicket, who drove a westbound Dodge Ram, along with her 13-year-old female passenger, was traveling on FM 787, when it suddenly swerved into the eastbound lane. The Dodge struck an eastbound 2022 Subaru Outback driven by Debra Cherry.

Cherry’s vehicle crossed into the westbound lane resting into the westbound shoulder. There, an eastbound 2021 GMC Acadia driven by Christina Bloore, 32, of Cleveland, struck a westbound 2010 Toyota Tundra driven by Aiden Sickler, 18, also of Cleveland.

Cherry sustained critical injuries. The paramedics airlifted her to HCA Kingwood, where she later died.

Moreover, the medical responders also took Bloore with the three children, ages 2, 8, and 9, whom she was traveling with to HCA Conroe. 

Sickler and his 17-year-old passenger, Karson Jones, were transported to HCA Cleveland with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigating officers said the collision west of CR 2184  is still under investigation and criminal charges may be filed.
