David Mandujano Dies in DUI, Street Racing Crash on Santa Teresa Boulevard Near Lean Avenue
SAN JOSE, CA (May 8, 2019) – A man perished in a DUI street racing crash Sunday night on Santa Teresa Boulevard near Lean Avenue.
David Mandujano was a passenger in a high-speeding 2002 Pontiac Trans Am traveling eastbound on Santa Teresa Boulevard.
Around 9:55 p.m., the unidentified Pontiac driver lost control and crashed into a tree at the center median.
Witnesses say the Pontiac was street racing with a black Chevy Camaro. According to their testimonies, the man exited the Camaro and peered through the window of the Trans Am, appearing upset and in tears.
The police subsequently arrived and the driver re-entered his car and left the scene.
Twenty-four-year-old Mandujano, a criminal justice graduate, died at the scene. Paramedics transported the driver to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Not long after the collision, police made plans to book the Trans Am driver into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI causing death.
Family members told news reporters that all three, including the Camaro driver, were cousins. However, the San Jose police have yet to confirm their family relationship.
Detective John Tompkins urges witnesses to call 408-277-4654 if they’d like to add any information to the investigation.
In light of this terrible news, our firm would like to express our sympathies to the family and friends of David Mandujano.
