Sacramento Man David Cosper Suffers Broken Legs in Broadway Hit-and-Run Crash
Sacramento, CA (July 09, 2021) – On June 27, David Cosper was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash on Broadway.
The accident happened in the morning at the intersection with Riverside Boulevard.
A surveillance video from a nearby gas station shows a car running a red light and slamming into Cosper on his motorcycle.
“I believe that I flew into the hood, up on the windshield, up onto the roof and then fell to the ground from the roof,” Cosper said.
Cosper doesn’t remember anything else. However, the video shows that after the impact, two people got out of the vehicle and took off running. A passenger took over in the driver’s seat and fled.
Cosper wishes someone stayed to do the right thing.
“Mentally, the most disheartening thing about the video is how many people did not do anything and that is just crushing,” he said. He said cars drove by but didn’t come to his aid.
Unfortunately, Cosper sustained two broken legs and has a long road to recovery.
“This is my life for the next three months, and I am my own business. And I don’t have employees, so it will be a challenge,” Cosper said.
Meanwhile, the authorities are looking for the suspect driver.
Moreover, the suspect’s car license plate is believed to be 7VMW954 and the vehicle is a 2017 gray Hyundai Sonata.
“I just want people to be aware that, no matter what the situation is, it’ll be 10-times worse if you leave the scene. You have to own up to your mistakes,” Cosper said.
Here is the GoFundMe page for Cosper and the family.
Moreover, always be wary of those around you on the road. This is especially true when it comes to sharing the road with cyclists and motorcyclists, who are more vulnerable to injuries following a crash.
Preventing Accidents From Happening
While driving is essential for many in order to move about in their lives, it is one of the most dangerous activities performed daily. That is because auto accidents are a major public health threat. Traffic accidents are a leading cause of death for individuals ages 5-64.
That is why it is indeed crucial that we drive defensively in order to avoid accidents as much as possible.
Here are some of the things that we can do to practice defensive driving:
– First of all, always drive at a controllable speed.
– Similarly, do not assume you know the other driver’s intention.
– Also, it is good to be prepared to positively react to other drivers.
– This one, we should never neglect: yield at intersections, even if you have right of way.
– Stay focused on the road. Remove all distractions.
