Dale Ramquist Killed, Kyle Anson Charged in Hit-and-Run DUI Bicycle Crash on Oak Valley Parkway Near Palmer Avenue
BEAUMONT, CA (November 26, 2018) – A 60-year-old bicyclist was fatally struck by a hit-and-run DUI driver on Oak Valley Parkway near Palmer Avenue Sunday evening.
The fatal incident unfolded at approximately 5:50 p.m. when 60-year-old Dale Ramquist was riding his bicycle eastbound in a paved bike lane along Oak Valley Parkway. That is when 25-year-old Kyle Lee Anson, of Beaumont, was driving his Ford F-150 pickup truck in the same direction.
However, due to Anson’s level of intoxication, according to the California Highway Patrol, the Ford pickup truck veered into the bike lane and crashed into Ramquist’s bicycle. Ramquist was ejected from his bike and suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
Anson reportedly fled the area and a witness contacted 911. The hit-and-run motorist eventually returned to the scene and admitted to being involved in the fatal crash. CHP noted that it was dark when the incident occurred and that Ramquist was following all safety bicycle procedures including wearing safety equipment and using lighting.
Anson was charged with murder DUI, gross vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run charges.
Our deepest thoughts and sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of Dale Ramquist.
