Cristine Spindler Arrested in Wrong-Way DUI Wreck on Highway 17 Near Granite Creek Road That Injured Motorist
SCOTTS VALLEY, CA (November 27, 2018) – A man was seriously injured in a wrong-way DUI crash on Highway 17 near Granite Creek Road Thanksgiving afternoon.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 40-year-old woman from Los Angeles was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 17. The wrong-way driver, identified as Cristine Spindler, was in her Mazda CX-5 when she plowed into a Honda Accord, causing her Mazda to overturn.
Officers had already been on their way after responding to earlier calls regarding a wrong-way motorist traveling near Mt. Hermon Road, yet it was too late.
Investigators determined that Spindler was under the influence of alcohol. She suffered minor injuries in the crash while the 69-year-old Santa Cruz man operating the Honda suffered more serious injuries including a broken left leg.
Authorities are investigating this incident further to determine the liabilities.
