Bicyclist Hurt in Santa Rosa Traffic Accident near Guerneville Road and Herbert Street
SANTA ROSA, CA (December 5, 2024) – Wednesday morning, a crippling bicycle crash near Guerneville Road led to injuries.
The incident happened at around 7:35 a.m. near Guerneville Road and Herbert Street.
Police report that a blue Chevy Astro van struck a bicyclist in the westbound lanes of Guerneville Road.
Santa Rosa PD and fire personnel arrived at the scene to find the bicyclist lying in the road in front of the van. He was breathing and was quickly transported to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Preliminary findings suggest the van was traveling west in the number two lane with a green light when the bicyclist, heading east, entered the roadway into oncoming traffic. Despite the driver’s attempt to stop, a collision occurred.
Investigators have ruled out speed and driver impairment as factors. The reason the bicyclist entered the roadway remains unclear.
The westbound lanes of Guerneville Road at Herbert Street were closed for several hours but have since reopened. Police have not released the names of those involved.
