Worker Dies in Construction Accident in Oxnard
OXNARD, CA (April 12, 2019) – A construction worker perished Thursday after a crane failed and collapsed in the 3000 block of Camino Del Sol near Kinetic Drive.
According to reports, the Oxnard fire department responded to a call around 1:40 p.m. In the report, firefighters learned that a 54-year-old carpenter from Palmdale was struck by a fallen crane.
Fire department crews arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Fire Department spokesman Sergio Martinez stated that the crane, responsible for lifting a part of a concrete wall, failed and collapsed. A part of the crane struck the worker and injured a second construction worker from Palmdale. The surviving worker sought hospitalization after the incident.
According to Martinez, nearly fifteen crew members from Gluck Building Co. were undertaking a 60,000-square-foot building project at the time. He further adds that no foul play occurred.
Because details are scant, the California Division of Occupational Health and Safety Administration plans to investigate the circumstances.
