Colin Murray Injured and Charged following Suspected DUI Rollover Crash
ORCUTT, CA (February 28, 2019) – 28-year-old Colin James Murray sustained major injuries Monday night, in a DUI Accident on Orcutt Road.
Officials received calls about the accident around 6:40 p.m. First responders arrived to the intersection of Union Valley Parkway and Orcutt Road. The accident was just east of Highway 135.
According to reports, Murray was southbound on Orcutt Road. At the same time, 28-year-old Amy Alison Ruth was westbound on Union Valley Parkway.
Officials say Murray’s Pontiac veered onto the sidewalk and struck a traffic signal. Soon after, he rear-ending Ruth’s 2014 Toyota. Murray’s vehicle also overturned while traveling through the intersection.
The Pontiac then struck a second traffic signal pole. The car entered a drainage canal and flipped on its roof.
Murray suffered major injuries due to the impact, including a liver laceration and brain bleed. Firefighters extricated him from the wreckage. As a result, he was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria for treatment.
He was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. No further updates on his charges have been disclosed.
Witnesses say that drivers noticed flashing traffic signals at the intersection due to the damaged light pole. Crews were working to repair the broken traffic signals.
The CHP are investigating the cause of the crash.
